Headlining the UFC 318 is the BMF title fight between Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier, who will fight for the third time. This is supposed to be Dustin’s sendoff fight, so interestingly enough, he was Max’s first fight in the UFC, so it makes sense for him to be Poirier’s last. Porier also won both of those previous two fights, the last one being for the interim Lightweight strap at UFC 236.
Max wants to get his revenge, no matter if this is Dustin’s last fight. He wants to retire him with a knockout. Holloway managed to, in a way, revive his career by scoring three wins in a row, one of them being via spectacular knockout against Justin Gaethje at UFC 300, where he won the BMF belt. Unfortunately, he was not able to unify it along with a Featherweight strap as he was stopped for the first time in his career against Ilia Topuria.
Meanwhile, Dustin Poirier is a 30-9 UFC veteran. He has had some legendary fights in his career, and it makes sense for him to end his legacy against a top opponent like Holloway. Dustin’s last fights are a mixed bag as he is 2-3 and was last seen submitted by Islam Makhachev.
Max Blessed Holloway comes in as an obvious favourite in this one. He is three years younger and has momentum on his side. Even though he was KOed in his last fight, he is still tough as nails and will be looking to put a beating on Dustin. Porier has gotten hurt a lot in his recent fights. He is slowing down considerably, hence the decision to finally retire. For all of those reasons, I would give the nod to Holloway to take a win by decision.
